Text Messaging in the United States; Google’s Earnings; Google, Facebook, and GDPR – Stratechery by Ben Thompson:
Given that iMessage doesn’t work on Android, in countries where Android is stronger it is worth the hassle to get everyone on an alternative app; then you get the superior user experience of IP-based messaging no matter who you are texting. In the U.S., though, where the iPhone is much stronger than much of the rest of the world, iMessage is good enough, and besides, texting is still effectively free.
This, by the way, is why I highly doubt that iMessage will ever come to Android: in the U.S. in particular it is the strongest reason to stick with iOS no matter how attractive Android phones might be; no one wants to the be the green bubble friend.
Ich bin einer mit der grünen Blase. Hallo!
